Gap in Spencer's story

Anyone feel like there is a gap they didn't cover. Last we knew he was taken off the boat away from Alex and season 2 we have him working on some ship. Like how did that happen no backstory. Then all of a sudden they are in Texas? How'd he get there so fast? Again no backstory
