Wooden Spoon for Small Child - Any Concerns?

So a couple different families we know have had children recently and I automatically thought "Oh, they would enjoy it if I made them a cute small wooden spoon".

What, if anything, is wrong with that logic. Would there be any issue with the child chewing on the wooden spoon (before or after teeth)?

I use a food safe finish (oil/beeswax mix) so I'm not really concerned about that (or should I be?).

I'm trying a couple prototypes - at times I found it a little difficult to hold and carve a smaller item like but I think I can work it out.

Anyone with experience with this?

Thanks,

John
