Roast My Logic And Tell me I’m ****

***Update since I did get a lot of useful feedback for consideration: I test drove a new M3 LRAWD. I had never driven a Tesla before. I think autopilot is a great fit for me. Leaning towards LRAWD. Faster and safer and I do occasionally commute in light snow. Trying to talk myself into used. Example Tesla Dealer ‘22 29k mi AB and FSD for 33,900. In considering the ‘25 I Really think I might appreciate the new interior quietness and overall plushness of the car 150k miles from now. But it’s $48,490.

Currently driving 20k mi a year in a 3/4 ton truck… about 18k of those miles don’t require a truck. Getting about 15mpg.

Started thinking about getting a commuter. Looked at Camry and Prius and Accord. My thoughts about all are 🤮 but they are cheap and serve the purpose. Can get a Toyota with TSS 2.5+ for $25k.

Then for the first time I take a serious look at Tesla. The model 3 refresh looks pretty good and long range RWD $45,500. 🤔 Price of electricity at my house here in CA is $.49kwh.

Fell in love with the idea of autopilot… and also very interested in FSD, which seems to be working very good with HW4. I have some long early AM and late PM commutes where the driver assist seems like it could be a game changer. I’m thinking it may allow me to spend a few more nights at home with my wife and new baby if commuting is easy and cheap.

But then, the M3P steps in and “I can’t not want it”Now the price goes up to $55k. AWD is a plus in my books for foul weather driving. I love fast things, I love the idea of a 2.9 0-60 commuter with autopilot.

Roast me for thinking there’s anything “commuter” worthy about a $55k car with several known quality issues. Most likely I’ll be putting 18k-25k miles per year on it.
