Honest review

Coming from a really old Ikea Malm bed that made it through 3 moves and a whole lot of punishment, it was finally time to get a big boy bed after half the laminate was pealing off and the squeaking was getting annoying. I did my research and really wanted to find something like Thuma but better/cheaper less advertising but, for a few mediocre reasons I just went with it and the 1k price tag.

I ordered the queen in walnut with a dark grey headboard. I got a confirmation email saying they would update me on shipping but it would be a few weeks. 3 days later I found two giant boxes in my lobby... they actually came the day before but I never got an email so I didn't check. the first two boxes were the frame itself. Luckily someone brought them into the lobby so they weren't sitting outside in the rain for two days! thanks neighbor! I tore down my old bed which took longer than it should have, and popped this thing together in about 3 minutes which I guess some people love but the simplicity does nothing for me except concern me of longevity.

Once i had the frame and slats put together I rocked and rolled it and it was fine, a slight bit of movement side to side, not much front to back. I thought id hate this but I think it actually gives the bed a bit of a lively feel, its hardly noticeable but gives just enough to not feel like a rock. Threw the mattress on, the rock is still there but even less noticeable. there isn't any creaking while moving around on the bed EXCEPT the initial sit down after its been sitting there for a few hours. every time I go to sit or lay down it gives a decent crack/creek and then its silent. Doesn't bother me, I was mainly concerned about creaking during sex and I'm very happy to say its silent.

My headboard was nowhere to be found. I still had no tracking numbers so I emailed them... 2 days later I got an email with tracking numbers and the same day the headboard was delivered. I will say, the whole tracking number thing was pretty annoying. its pretty basic packing logistics to send customers a receipt and tracking number as soon as you have a packing slip. anyone in an apartment building knows these things are crucial. either way i got my bed fast and no incidents so i let it go.

I've been sleeping on it for over a month and I'm happy with it. It looks just like the photos, its solid, it doesn't creek during sex, I personally love the height. the headboard is meh but I didn't buy it for that. It's well made, Time will tell if the castle joint can stand the test of time but I don't see why it wouldn't. is it worth 1k? no, but I already knew that. most furniture isn't worth the price. you could make this exact bed out of actual walnut for about $300 in materials and a shit ton of labor/skill. Note, this bed is made from reclaimed mango wood and not solid boards, they glue up pieces to make longer boards. there isn't anything inherently wrong or weak with that but its a cheaper product from Asia. I'd bet you could get a furniture maker to do it out of solid walnut for you for the same price and end up with a slightly better product although whos got a furniture maker handy like that :) the one downside of this wood/color is that its a gel stain and when it gets Knicks in it, the original light wood is going to show through. If it goes with your décor, get the light wood, it will look nicer much much much longer.

ok that's enough rambling. feel free to ask me questions.
