Why did they teach us to make fun of ourselves?

I'm not the only one. I swear I can't be.

I distinctly remember a day that they decided to teach all of us kids all about bullying, and what we could do to prevent ourselves from being bullied is that when we were being made fun of... to make fun of ourselves.

I'm not joking, this was like an entire assembly day for us like five or six year olds. They wheeled out movies and everything and told us that if people were making fun of us, that we should make more fun of ourselves instead. That way they were laughing WITH US, not AT US... and the bullies would magically go away or even like us.

Am I crazy? Am I the only one who experienced this insane piece of advice given out in public schools?
