Getting into the South African film

Hey guys, hope you all are well. So I'm almost 28 with an economics degree but the more time passes the more I realise that I really want to make films. More specifically, I'm writing a screenplay right now, but my ambitions run much greater than just writing scripts, I want to write and direct in the future.

So with that in mind, my question is how does someone who hasn't gone to film school best get involved in the film industry in South Africa? More pragmatic advice would be appreciated. i.e Where could I start, with an ecos degree, that places me in the best position to learn the practical and technical aspects of film making? Is it worth it in terms of it being a viable career choice in SA? What are the biggest hurdles ? ect

All practically advice would be much appreciated.
