Austin, Texas is the Rubber Guard of American Cities

Austin, Texas has received a lot of hype over the past decade. Tons of jobs/opportunity, flavorful food, etc etc.

It's homeless population isn't attractive, the cost of living sucks, the city at times can have an arrogant view of itself. The pricing for the jiu jitsu is astronomical compared to most cities. I guess if I wanted to train with the best to be the best, it might work (unless you look at schools in San Diego and NYC on the same level). But I would argue the majority of people are hobbyists and hobbyists would prefer to train with a hobbyist mindset. Sure there will be some push, but not to the level of the elite.

Austin will stay around for certain, but the arrogance around accepting the scene as the new Mecca will fade away as more people go to visit it, and say "hey this is quirky and different", and then realize it's just not for them.
