did a ton of research about eczema! wanted to share

I typed this all out to my mom so it’s a bit lazy but I spent forever doing research and learning about eczema, and the other type I have, dyshidrotic eczema. I just thought it was interesting and I wanted to share to everyone else if its of use 😁

so eczema is mainly caused by a lack of filaggrin in the skin which is a protein that keeps moisture in and strengthens the skin barrier to keep bacteria and irritants out. Temperature changes can weaken the barrier and filaggrin in the skin.

dyshidrotic eczema is when you have tiny fluid filled blisters that can be on your fingers, palms or your feet, I just have them on my fingers. The blisters can crack and split and leave raw, dry patches on your fingers. dyshidrotic eczema can be caused by stress, allergies, mold, sweat and other things.

the way eczema and asthma are related is they are both connected to an overactive immune system and they share genetic factors. theyre connected through the atopic triad which is a group of sicknesses. its eczema, asthma and hay fever. they can be genetic or caused by your environment like weather and allergies. so not everyone has the triad but they’re all connected making it likely to get one of them if you have another.

some things that can help eczema is colloidal oatmeal, its like a fine powder of oats also called avena sativa. its meant more for external uses but it is edible, just not recommended. you can buy it as a cream or mix the powder with water and soak in it. it helps cuz it has anti-inflammatory compounds like avenanthramides and beta-glucans which make the skin barrier stronger.

you can soak areas with eczema in baking soda water too. the alkaline in helps balance the pH in your skin which regulates the acidity of your skin so it gets less irritated. it can also exfoliate your skin and take off the dead skin and soothes your skin to make it less itchy.

i am not a medical professional at all and i’ve only been dealing with eczema for the first time these past couple weeks so if my info is off, please tell me! and if anything i’ve messily typed out needs explained better, ill gladly do so lmao
